The Ask
How can we tackle impulsive buying happening in skincare industry.
RESEARCH
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, skincare usage increased significantly compared to pre-pandemic levels. This surge was largely driven by skincare influencers, as consumers tend to place greater trust in influencers’ more relatable appearances than in traditional celebrities. As a result, this shift has contributed to a rise in overconsumption within the skincare market.

FINDINGS
Plastic and product waste have risen considerably. Although the government has introduced a policy called Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), only Nykaa currently appears to be actively complying with it. Furthermore, there is no comprehensive or well structured system in place to effectively address and manage this issue.
FINAL DESIGN
I have designed an app that includes features such as a “return your empties” program, a streak-based rewards system, and a subscription model. This project is tailored specifically for a single brand that aims to build long-term sustainability and retain its market position. Since consumers often make impulsive purchases, the app is intended to encourage repeat engagement and increase customer retention by creating structured incentives for continued participation.
